Noise guardrail

A simple and effective solution to reduce noise pollution.

The current noise levels in and around residential areas may not increase any further. The Noise guardrail is then an affordable solution that fits into the roadscape. Noise guardrails obstruct the view. Quiet asphalt is relatively expensive and becomes saturated over time. The Noise guardrail can offer an effective solution along various roads to remain below the desired threshold value.

The Noise guardrail consists of a combination of a (possibly existing) crash guardrail under which a specially constructed plate is very simply mounted. This plate reflects the sound downwards where the sound is absorbed in the verge. The sound will be reduced by 2 to 6 dB, which is a noticeable difference. The advantage is that the system can both reverse traffic and shield the sound close to the source. This creates a traffic safety system with noise reduction. It is an affordable solution that fits into the roadscape and meets the increasingly strict standards that apply to noise pollution.

The Noise guadrail has been tested and CE-marked conform the NEN-EN 1317-5. This establishes that the application of the Noise guardrail under a crash barrier has no effect on the safety and functioning of the (existing) crash barrier. The Noise guardrail can be easily mounted without adjustments under all crash barrier systems that are extended at the front, such as FL 2M and VLP constructions.

Noise advice for every road type

Stefan Voeten, noise advisor at Movares: ‘Traditional noise measures are often found to be ineffective or actually too expensive in relation to their effectiveness. This gave me the idea to look for a cheaper solution that is also effective enough. By using standard crash barriers for noise protection, this was achieved. This does not alter the fact that every noise measure has a specific application area and correct integration is important. We support Saferoad with noise advice and provide direct advice to clients.’
